CheckMate Artisanal Winery Silent Bishop Merlot 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Silent Bishop blend in 2016 is 92 percent merlot, 4 percent petit verdot, and 4 percent syrah, all grown on three cool Western Benches under Mt. Kobau: Oliver North, Golden Mile, and Osoyoos West. They get the gentle early morning sun, and at 49 degrees north, that could be as early as 5 am all summer. In short, they effectively escape the late-day baking rays of the sun as it slips behind Kobau, leaving the vineyards in shadow. The less is more style of Silent Bishop is prevalent on the raspberry and blackberry nose and the wine's elegant structure. The Attack is round and savoury, and in 2016 the tannins are both complex and slippery, adding to its long, persistent, linear finish.Tasted: 04 February 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
