Hawkes Bay, North Island, New ZealandFrom Hawke's Bay's omahu stony gravels and red metal soils, this is Merlot clone 181. Destemmed fruit was fermented in stainless before resting in a blend of stainless and French barriques for 11 months. Milk chocolate, light spice, muted plum take the short, clipped palate, finishing with a bitter cocoa note. Tannins are softened, as is acidity.
