Gérard Bertrand An 806 2017

Corbières, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceThe year 806 marks the first traces of Peyrepertuse Castle, a legacy of the Cathars who built the towering citadels that still overlooks the vineyard in Corbières. This GSM is rooted in the site's schist, limestone, and worn pebbles. The syrah in this GSM was carbonically macerated, while the Grenache and Mourvèdre were traditionally destemmed, macerated and fermented. Post MLF, the three were blended and aged in 225L barrels for eight months, with a fining before bottling. This 2017 is primed for enjoying now, with defined blackcurrant, perfumed black cherry, wild plum, crushed violets, and ample scrubby thorns flooding a full-bodied, yet very fresh *thanks 2017* palate. Tannins are firm but well-integrated by this time, leaving a stony grip in their wake. A lot is packed into this smart wine, and for a great price—partner with any pork / grilled root veg dish.Tasted: 01 November 2021Tasted by: Prices:
