Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThomas Bachelder is one of Canada's leading chardonnay and pinot noir specialists honed through time in Bourgogne and Oregon and years in the vineyards of his Niagara home base. This Wismer-Parke is on the Vineland Bench, 5.4 km from the Lake, and an altitude of 110 metres, rooted into reddish magnesium oxide and dolomitic-limestone clay soils. Earthy ferrous notes weave throughout this silken pinot, tinged with herbal raspberry, crushed red florals, and fleshed with cherries. Tannins are light and long, and acidity is lifted and shining, imbuing the wine with inherent energy. Lovely seriousness met with lightness of being.Tasted: 22 July 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThis comes from Wismer-Parke Vineyard on the Vineland Bench, a vineyard which Bachelder had to "learn to love." The reddish magnesium-oxide and dolomitic-limestone clay soils yield pinots which are more sauvage and rustic, though certainly no less compelling. Again, this wine has a distinctive ferrous note, though it's less forward here than the Wild West End bottling. That doesn't mean it's any less complex or savoury, though. Turned earth, game, and sweet spices are beautifully balanced by cherry, showing exceptional purity. It's a complete wine with tremendous freshness and fine grained tannins that will reward careful cellaring for a decade to come.Tasted: 30 November 2021Tasted by: Prices:
