Bachelder Wismer-Foxcroft Nord Chardonnay 2019

Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaNord comes off a small plot within the more extensive and highly-lauded Wismer-Foxcroft Vineyard, some 5 km from Lake Ontario. The vines are 30+ years old and grow on a steep, stony-silty and dolomitic limestone slope. The result is saline citrus with all its energy intact after a 16-month rest in older French barrels sans bâtonnage. This wine is not about fruit, but rather a place, as it was last year. The limestone supplies the energy and tension to what is flinty, slightly reductive green apple, and lemon peel. Again this is the kind of wine that should make the Burgundians nervous, but at $48, I’m guessing no one takes it too seriously. Stock up while you can, folks.Tasted: 29 November 2021Tasted by: Prices:
