Adelaide Hills, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide, South Australia, AustraliaSomos means “we are” in Spanish, with the 'we' referring to the duo of Aussie Ben Caldwell and Mexican Marco Ruiz Cantú, who met while attending the Uni of Adelaide. They focus on alternative and obscure varieties from sustainably farmed vineyards, and making them in a natural/minimal interventionist way. This is a single vineyard mencia from Adelaide Hills, native fermented and partial whole bunch for native ferment into 2nd-4th fill French oak, where it rested for a year. This is a juicy, youthful mencia, full of primary raspberry, fragrant plum, wild blueberry, boysenberry and white pepper. The palate is slight, yet mouthwatering and jubilant, with a flush of acidity and soft, fine tannins taking this to a pink peppercorn finish.
