Tantalus Den's Block Old Vines Riesling 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaDen's Block Riesling is a team effort at Tantalus and an hommage to BC wine industry pioneer Daniel Martin Dulik, affectionately known to his friends and peers as Den. Dulik died in 2016 but had owned and operated Pioneer Vineyards in South East Kelowna, where Tantalus sits now, for several decades. He established some of the earliest vinifera in Canada, planting riesling sourced from the Weis family of Mosel's St. Urbans-Hof winery back in 1978. The Tantalus team credits Den and his wife Pat and daughter Sue with much of their early success, not only for laying the foundation for what they farm today but also for the immeasurable, sage advice he passed along over the years. In 2018 the wine is bright and lively with intense ripe fruit. The nose is a mix of apricots and mandarin oranges that meet in the middle of the palate with wet stones, sea salt, lemon curd, and a long, mouthwatering finish. It is made in the sweet spatlese style, but there is plenty of acidity to keep it all balanced. Well done.Tasted: 30 April 2021Tasted by: Prices:
