Garzón Single Vineyard Tannat 2019

Garzón, Maldonado, San José, UruguayBodega Garzón is close to Punta del Este, La Barra, and Jose Ignacio, Uruguay’s oasis, seventeen kilometres inland from the Atlantic Ocean. It was designed from the ground up, with over 1,000 small vineyard blocks covering its hillside slopes. The resulting varying microclimates, different humidity levels, and intense canopy management have spawned various unique labels. The Garzón single vineyard is cooler than other blocks on the estate, and when you combine that with steep slopes and thin soils, you can add excellent drainage to the mix. This tannat came in at a moderate 13.5 percent alcohol, and after fermentation in concrete tulips, it spends 12 to 18 months on the lees in French barrels and foudres. Consulting winemaker Alberto Antonini works closely with Germán Bruzzone Eduardo Félix to ensure elegance is at the heart of this wine, something few tannat producers can say anywhere in the world. The nose mixes red fruits, tobacco, and dark chocolate with a spicy undercurrent. The palate is juicy, fresh, and more refined than earlier editions, with blackcurrant, blackberry, and violets lifted to the finish with fine acidity.
