Viña Chocalán Gran Reserva Carmenere 2018

Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileFrom the Coastal area of Maipo Valley, near the Maipo River and rooted in granitic clays and loam, this carmenere is aided by 10% carmenere, and 5% petit verdot. After a stainless ferment, this remains on skins for an additional 10 days before 80% is moved to French oak barrels for 8 -10 months' aging. Plush and thick with smoked tobacco, charred branch seasoning heady blackcurrant and peppery spice. Tannins are ample but soft, leaving a puff of camp smoke in their wake.
