Podere le Ripi Lupi Serene Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyPodere le Ripi is a 54 hectare organic and certified biodynamic estate owned by Francesco Illy (yes, of the Trieste coffee family), filled with forest, olive trees, and vineyards. Illy found the Podere Le Ripi site in 1997, south east of Montalcino, and previously owned by a shepherd. He planted the vines three years later. This sangiovese is rooted in brown marls, and was native fermented and macerated for 50 days in open top oak, before 33 months in oak barrel, 9 months in cement, and at least 19 months in bottle prior to release. Ripe and sultry up front, with fragrant black cherries (fresh and dried), filling the structural palate, along with medicinal blackcurrant, and peppery spice. Tannins are long and firm and grippy, holding this through a lingering spiced finish. Old school, but quite polished.Tasted: 13 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
