Peña Aldera Crianza Rioja 2017

Rioja, SpainBodegas Jalón is a small family run bodega making wine from their 10 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, averaging 30 years, and between 460 and 500m in the Iregua Valley. Peña Aldera is one of their brands for crianza and reserva wines. This blend of 80% tempranillo, 20% graciano is rooted in their clay and sandstone soils, and was Aged in oak barriques for 22 months. The American wood component is evident from first whiff, with heavily toasted cedar / toasted coconut framing black cherry, cassis, tobacco, stony smoke along the full bodied palate. Tannins are ample, but now enveloped by the wine with time in bottle. Classic Rioja, this is best taken with grilled lamb and / or root veg.Tasted: 31 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
