Maison Champy Beaune Vieilles Vignes 2017

Beaune, Côte de Beaune, Côte d'Or, Burgundy, FranceThe simple Beaune appellation vineyards lie at the bottom of the hill facing east to the south over limestone and clay soils. Vieilles Vignes refer to the selection of vines that are now 75 years old. Interestingly they are two years into an organic certification program. It is all handpicked, cold macerated, and fermented wild for three weeks. It aged in French oak barriques (25 percent new), for 14 months. Look for a lightly smoky, earthy nose with a touch of dried herbs and wild berries. The palate is silky, Beaune smooth, with more strawberry and earthy mushroom notes and a soft, inviting finish.
