Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMaria's Block was home to the first plantings of riesling at Kitsch's East Kelowna estate. However, winter damage resulted in the vines being pulled out in January 2019, so this is the last Maria's Block Riesling, so named to honour 3 generations of Marias in the family. This is clone 239, from Geisenheim, planted in 2013. After a whole cluster press, this was fermented in stainless over one month, and then remained in stainless for 60 days on lees prior to bottling. Juicy and bright, with ample mouthwatering sweetness via lime pulp, ripe pear, nectarines, and candied lemon peel. Kitsch Maria's Block Riesling 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaSadly Maria's Block was frozen out during the winter of 2019, and the vines have been subsequently pulled out. Gone but not forgotten, this final effort is a standout. 239 is a Geisenheim clone that originated in Germany, but what you notice is some petrol on the nose. Not enough to bother but rather just enough to complex the aroma and, as some might suggest, point to a warmer site than its ancestral heritage. No matter, this is a delicious wine. Fresh and tightly wound, it is a bath of citrus and herbal notes with just enough residual to keep you going back to the glass or looking for a spicy bite. Kitsch Maria's Block Riesling 2019

It's since been pulled out due to winter damage sustained in January 2019, and this is the last vintage. It's a spectacular way to finish, a bit like an athlete retiring in their prime. The clone is 239, a Geisenheim clone originally from Germany. This wine speaks to that Germanic influence, but more importantly, shouts Okanagan. It’s quite pithy and mineral, with well-defined citrus fruits and just a hint of petrol. The balance is on point, with racy, zippy acidity that carries the light touch of residual sugar (16 g/L) to an off-dry finish. The choice to give this a year in the cellar before its release was a smart one. Recommended and good value. Only 250 cases were produced.Tasted: 27 March 2021Tasted by: Prices:
