Ventoux, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceFrom various certified organic, biodynamically farmed estate vineyards in Ventoux averaging 300m altitude, this blend of 60/40 grenache/syrah is rooted in the region's stony limestone and iron oxide sands. After a native ferment in stainless, this aged in a mix of stainless and cement. Earthy plum, wild raspberry, crunchy cherry stream along the palate, seasoned with scrubby rosemary and thorns, and lofted with bright, easy acidity. Tannins are fine and furry, and the finish hums with ferrous stoniness imbued with a warming medicinal cherry note. Quite smart, characterful and well-priced red for enjoying now and over the short term.Tasted: 08 November 2021Tasted by: Prices:
Ventoux, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceThe Pesquié Ventoux red ticks a lot of buy boxes. It grows at an altitude of roughly 300 metres on various estate terroirs along Mount Ventoux's hillsides. The soils are a stony limestone, flecked with iron oxide sands and clays. The property is certified organic using some biodynamic techniques, and production is a third-generation family affair. The blend is 60/40 grenache/syrah macerated for 15 days and then aged for several months in stainless steel and cement. The attack is round, ripe, and fleshy with spicy black raspberry, black cherry, mulberry. Underneath, a peppery, garrigue, crushed stone character gives it a bit of generosity on the way to the finish. A good year for sure. The Pesquié freshness adds even more to an easy-sipping red with all the serious Rhone wine hallmarks that will easily age a few more years in the bottle if desired. Food matches include pizzas, kebabs, charcuterie, vegetable pies, terrines, and more.Tasted: 30 November 2020Tasted by: Prices:
