Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaThe 2018 Leeu Passant Cab is a blend of parcels from Stellenbosch: one parcel of 39 year old dry farmed bush vine cab planted in deep alluvial soils of Firgrove; 2 parcels planted on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain; and one parcel planted in the deep decomposed granite soils of the Polkadraai Hills. This was destemmed and native fermented, with a couple weeks of skin contact before moving into 500L barrel for 20 months (30% new). Classically inspired, with cab's inherent structure framing savoury cassis, black cherry, black plum, and gravels. Tannins are firm, but softly seamless, guiding this to a lingering, graphite finish. Beauty drinking now, or for setting down over the next few years.Tasted: 10 October 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
