Mission Hill Terroir Collection Vista's Edge Cabernet Franc 2018
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada2018 is a coolish year, slightly warmer than 2016, but less crop. Wildfire smoke was an issue and will likely find its way into many BC reds. I noted very little in this wine, but it was made unaltered. Interestingly, winemaker Darry Brooker prefers to make the wine as normal and deal with the smoke if it becomes an issue at the end of winemaking. Presumably, it would be blended off if the smoke was too prominent. As it turns out, it's not a big deal in this delicious bottle that is long on fresh blueberry and dark plum, wrapped in dense, silky, round tannins that add to its finish and charm. Buy and hold; it is going to be something special. It is cabernet franc, clone 214, grown in Oliver BC.Tasted: 19 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Mission Hill Terroir Collection Vista's Edge Cabernet Franc 2018
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is the current release from Vista's Edge, near the US border on the Osoyoos East Bench. It is quite youthful at present, with forward oak that needs time to fully integrate. It's also a bigger wine than the 2016 vintage, beside which it was tasted, with bold black fruits and less cabernet franc savouriness. The tannins are more forceful and extracted, perhaps due to fermentation in oak as opposed to concrete, so it needs some time to come into its own. At the moment, it's just a bit foursquare.Tasted: 19 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:
