Tuscany, ItalyPèppoli is an Antinori single estate dedicated to quality Chianti Classico. This is based on sangiovese and complemented by other indigenous grapes, all harvested separately. Each was fermented in stainless through MLF, and then the lots were blended and transferred into large Slavonian oak barrels for 9 months (a small part remained in stainless for a sprinkle of freshness). Dried red currants, black and red cherry, earthy woodsy notes rule this medium+ wine, with an ample dosage of Slavonian wood spicing, though quite polished tannins. There's a good amount of freshness to carry this to a warming baking spice finish. A touch old-school and rustic-hewn, this would well suit braised meats or root vegetable dishes.Tasted: 04 February 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Tuscany, ItalyThe move to Bargino and the new winery signalled a significant commitment by the Antinori family to raise the level of Chianti Classico to another level. Pèppoli is an Antinori single estate making top-flight Chianti Classico. In 2018, volumes returned to more normal levels, and while it was a warm year, it wasn’t super hot, allowing the sangiovese to ripen without baking. Look for bright red fruit with a savoury, forest floor undercurrent and juicy cherry notes. The textures are silky, the acidic fresh, and the finish long. A solid effort and it will pass easily through 2025 and beyond.Tasted: 24 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:
