CedarCreek Amphora Project 2019

East Kelowna, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe last time I saw this wine it was in a large amphora, topped with a thick cap of skins, Winemaker Taylor Whelan reached down through the cap and drew some of the cloudy amber wine for us to taste. It was delicious then, and it remains so now. Inspired by Edelzwicker, this is a certified organic Home Block blend of Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris, all from vines 20+ years old. They were all destemmed and wild fermented together, in the aforementioned amphora, where they remained on skins for 6 months prior to gentle foot treading. Cloudy peach in hue, this slight wine is chiseled by tangerine pulp, pith, and peel, and flooded with perfumed apricot, wild lime, peach fuzz, all tightened with a slight tannic riff, and rinsed with a grapefruit astringency on the pristine finish. Really lovely first attempt, and one I hope they'll continue with.Tasted: 20 August 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
