French Door Héritage 2017

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe French Door has been turning heads since it opened just west and south of the Black Sage Bench, almost due west of downtown Oliver. The blend is a 61/19/14/5/1 syrah, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, and petit verdot. The fruit is hand-harvested, hand-sorted, destemmed and cold-soaked five days. Fermentation is followed with three to four daily pumpovers, leaving the skins with 50-65 days of skin contact. It was aged without movement in 30 percent new French oak, 10 percent third year, and 60 percent neutral wood. The first impression is the freshness upfront, setting the stage for a figgy, blueberry, quince affair dusted in tobacco. The tannins are dense but silky, promoting a long smooth finish. A fine start and this will get better in bottle over the next three to five years. The fruit comes off Three Boys Vineyard planted in 1996 in the South Okanagan.Tasted: 14 July 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
