Hester Creek Limited Edition The Judge 2017

Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Judge is an estate wine with most of the fruit coming off the oldest vines, first planted on the Golden Mile Bench back in 1968. The 2017 blend is 35/35/30 cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and merlot. Fewer varieties signal a bit of change in style is coming, although it still seems as if the wood is more involved then supporting. It’s more hedonistic, and I’m guessing its regular buyers like that. Look for plenty of spicy black fruit dusted in sagebrush, licorice, and chocolate. Growing Degree Days were high, totalling 1422 GDDs, well above the 13-year average of 1054 for the Oliver area. The single varieties are aged in medium-plus toasted oak barrels for 12 months, and then cross blended and aged another 12 months.Tasted: 14 July 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
