Famiglia Pasqua Amarone della Valpolicella 2015

Veneto, ItalyFamiglia Pasqua sources its Amarone grapes from five vineyards: Poiano, Roccolo di Mozzole, San Felice, San Pietro di Lavagno, and Tregnago. This apassimento wine blends corvina, corvinone, rondinella, and negrara, planted on calcareous clays and gravels, and all harvested very late and left to dry on bamboo racks and straw mats in the drying loft. It is during this desiccation that the bunches lose 25% of their weight, concentrating the remaining fruit and sugars. After approximately 3 months, the raisinated fruit is pressed and alcoholic fermentation in steel begins. Post ferment, this moves to French barrels and 20 months of aging prior to bottling and further aging. Plush and rich with baked currants, bittersweet cocoa, black cherry, and worked leather, this full+ bodied red (15%) still carries a freshness that moves it along its plumped, sinewy tannins. A rich wine for equally rich braised meat dishes.Tasted: 23 July 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
