Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaThe CARO red takes its name from family partners CAtena and ROthschild. The 83/17 blend of cabernet sauvignon/malbec is from one of the coldest years ever in modern Argentine winemaking. The rain dissipated by the second half of the growing season, but the acidity and aromatics remind me of the temperatures. The nose is a mix of cassis with a dusting of ground capsicum, and dusty, stony notes. The attack is Lafite supple upfront, but the fruit fades early, leaving the finish dry and a little bit short at this point. Best to let this sit in the cellar through 2022 and give it some time to come together.Tasted: 19 June 2020Tasted by: Prices:
Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaCARO is a partnership between CAtena and ROthschild, uniting Chile with France in a premium wine. This 85% malbec / 15% cabernet sauvignon blend comes from the 8ha CARO vineyard, located in Uco Valley's Altamira. Vineyards are planted at 1000m, on the ancient alluvial bed of the Tunuyan River. After a 3 week maceration and fermentation, this is transferred to French oak (50% new) for 18 months. Give this big red time to stretch its legs in decanter or glass, allowing this elegant and refined red time to express. Black cherry, cassis, thorns, dusty earth unravels in layers, gripped with firm tannins and lined with leather.Tasted: 10 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:
