Argiano Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Suolo 2015

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyIf you only buy one other vintage of Brunello di Montalcino let it be 2015. It’s perfection on all levels, and it is a year that will age effortlessly for the next thirty years and beyond. As it happens, Argiano chose 2015 to realize its first single-vineyard Brunello: Vigna del Suolo. It is the oldest sangiovese vineyard in the group at almost 60 years, and it is situated 280 to 310 meters above sea level over limestone-rich soil. Vigna del Suolo is a rare mix of power and elegance, always a winning combination of some of the world’s greatest wines. The initial stainless steel ferment and skin contact last about 21 days, followed by a full malolactic fermentation. In the end, the wine is aged four years, including two and a half years in oak barrels. Look for savoury, sour cherry aromas mixed with espresso, cocoa, and a hint of brown spice. The palate is slick with nuanced red fruit flecked with orange peel and more cherry. Just a baby, but showing huge promise.Tasted: 17 July 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
