Mullineux Old Vines White 2019

Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaTasted a couple of years along, and wow, can this wine age. About a quarter of the 2019 White Blend was lost when a transport truck tipped over. So if you find the 2019, cherish it even more than it normally warrants. This Swartland blend of chenin, clairette blanche, viognier, grenache blanc, semillon gris is mostly sourced from older vines (up to 70 years), lending greater concentration and character. The lots were whole bunch pressed and native fermented in 500-5000L barrels (5% new), with MLF encouraged. Some time in bottle has amped the already ample texture, and showing chenin's luring cusping with age. Honeycomb, wild pear, cracked flax is layered with flake salts and licked with a flinty reduction across a generous wild lees decked base. The finish on this full bodied wine lingers, leaving a stony salinity in its wake.Tasted: 11 October 2022Tasted by: Prices:
