Montsant, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainMontsant's Masroig (red farm) co-op was founded in 1918, and today is a quality example of how a co-op could and should operate. This samso (carignan) is grown over red clay and limestone, and fermented in stainless and sealed under stelvin to preserve freshness. This lighter red streams lifted red currant, raspberry, wild plum across a light palate, housed by finely grippy tannins, and threaded with a mineral salinity. Chill slightly and enjoy all summer / fall long.Tasted: 14 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Montsant, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainThe Masroig or 'red farm' co-op was established in Montsant, the Holy Mountain region surrounding Priorat, in 1918. Today, a century later, it is among the finest cooperatives in all of Spain. The samso (carignan) grown over clay and black slate terraces couldn't be any more fun to drink. It is a touch more luxurious than the previous edition, but still with a large amount of floral, dried herbs, and red and black berries with little noticeable tannins, previewing a medium-long finish. Savoury and balanced, it is a wine drinker's wine that can meet just about any dining occasion. Foods that work here include sausages, meaty pasta dishes, grilled beef, and medium-hard cheeses. Fine value.Tasted: 09 May 2020Tasted by: Prices:
