Masroig Sola Fred Montsant 2013
Montsant, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainMas Roig translates to the Red Farm, and this winery has been around since 1918 when the Cooperativa of El Masroig was formed. Today the 300 members of the Co-op are thought to be one of the most quality oriented in Spain. They do a fine job with this 90/10 mix of carignan and garnacha, grown right next door to the far pricier wines of Priorat. Look for a soft, pleasing palate of red and black fruits mixed with smoke and spice, all touched with stony minerality. The finish is medium long with smoky, earthy, floral cherry flavours. Most anything grilled works here, though my vote is for lamb chops. The vines are 20 to 40 years old and grown near the southern extent of Montsant. Great value.Tasted: 10 March 2015Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Treve RingPrices:BC | $17.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Waldorf Wine Group |
