Hedges Family Wines HIP Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesEven though this Columbia Valley red is labelled Cabernet Sauvignon, be aware that HIP has 21% syrah, from Red Mountain AVA. I point that out, because it's ample quantity, and it's no where on the label, and I believe in truth in labelling. The cab is coming from Sagemoor Vineyard, in Columbia Valley AVA (the larger AVA in which Red Mountain is nested). Fine, gritty tannins house this darkly gravelled fruit, filled with savoury red cherry, raspberry compote, and perfumed exotic spices running a tauter palate. There's quite a bit of oak here, finishing this off with a ripe plumpness, but thankfully coming at a welcome 13.5 degrees. At four years of age, this 2016 vintage is drinking well now.Tasted: 06 May 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
