Clos du Soleil Winemaker's Series Whispered Secret Vineyard Pinot Gris 2019
Keremeos, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Whispered Secret Vineyard in Keremeos, this pinot gris was fermented in a combination of stainless steel and French oak puncheons before aging on its lees for three months. It’s a restrained, lightly aromatic style that balances bright citrus and tree fruits alongside a subtle touch of wood. There’s a lovely richness and concentration to the palate, with a viscosity that’s gently bolstered by the pinch of residual sugar (3.8 g/L). It still retains a tension and precision that is difficult to achieve with pinot gris, which is what sets this apart. It’s tempting to think of pinot gris as a ‘drink now’ variety, but this wine should convince you otherwise. It really opens up nicely in the glass: a good indication that the best is yet to come.
