Weinland Österreich, AustriaThis is a tight, bright, zippy blend of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Muscat Ottnel, 20% Gruner Veltliner, and 10% Traminer, from the heavy clay soils of the Altenberg (Gols) vineyard. The GV was 95% whole berry (the remainder whole bunch) and fermented for 10 days on skins, while the Muscat and Traminer, spent less time on skins. The chardonnay was pressed immediately to preserve the freshness. After a native ferment, each part aged separately in barrique 8 months before blending and bottling. Lime blossom, green apple, melon and white pepper are lifted and zippy, sharpened via skin time, and finishing bright.
