Penfolds Max's Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

South Australia, AustraliaMy bottle of Max's Cabernet Sauvignon, named for the former chief winemaker Max Schubert (1948-1975), came wrapped in a special Chinese New Year skin, all designed around the riches of RED. Ripe, supple, and welcoming on an easy, densely fruited palate, full of dark cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, cracked cedar, and peppery spice. Tannins are sun-sinewy and long, and the finish is a bit abrupt, but nothing that those lamb chops won't mitigate. This is a blend of Wrattonbully, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Barossa Valley and Padthaway fruit, aged one year in American oak (5 percent new) and the balance in seasoned American and French oak hogsheads.Tasted: 18 January 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
