Bartier Bros. Cabernet Franc Cerqueira Vineyard 2018
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their Cerqueira Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench, and its sandy loams over granite till, this cab franc has 10% merlot tipped in, padding out the fleshy, juicy core. After destemming, this spent near 3 weeks on skins over fermentation, prior to pressing into neutral 225L French oak barrels, where it rested for 14 months. Wild blackberries, thorny cassis, pipe tobacco, and ample peppercorns flood the bright, savoury palate, housed with fine, well-integrated tannins. Drinking well now, and over the next couple years.Tasted: 21 October 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Bartier Bros. Cabernet Franc Cerqueira Vineyard 2018
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis franc has just been released, and even though it is 2018, it has that Bartier finesse that makes it approachable at release. The fruit comes off the Black Sage Terrace home site, Cerqueira Vineyard. Bartier mixes ten percent merlot into the wine to keep it supple and round, but it’s the savoury black fruit and leafy flavours of the cabernet franc that makes this wine work. It’s native fermented, on skins for a day, and aged one year in French oak barrels. Look for black plums and a persistent herbaceous undertow that runs through a polished finish dotted with baking spices. Tasted twice already and it is looking very friendly.Tasted: 21 December 2019Tasted by: Prices:
