Bartier Bros. Cabernet Franc Cerqueira Vineyard 2014
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Michael Bartier is a hands-off-let-the-site-do-the-talking kind of winemaker. The ’14 franc is all Cerqueira Vineyard located on the Black Sage Gravel Bar. The soils are dense loam topsoil above gravel with limestone (calcium carbonate) covered granite, quartz, and basalt cobbles throughout a deep profile. It was fermented with wild yeast and finished unfined and unfiltered. It was a warm year and the red and black is jammy albeit with a savoury, south Okanagan film. The grapes were harvested October 23 at 23.5 Brix. Maceration took place over 28 days in small open top stainless steel and concrete fermenters facing a combination of punch downs, pump overs and delestage. The fruit was pressed directly to barrels to complete fermentations and racked twice over the following 12 months. This one needs a bit of time in bottle or try now with roast pork or lamb.Tasted: 25 May 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $25.99 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |
