Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2017

South Eastern Australia, AustraliaKoonunga Hill may be one of the cheaper Penfolds wines on our market, but it shows its pedigree well, with a surprise and welcome freshness that lifts this 14.5 degree shiraz cabernet from South Australia. A soft, plush palate and stelvin closure hint at its intention for drinking now, while you wait for some of its older siblings to be ready. Ripe cherry, blackberry jam, a light dusting of black peppercorn and darker chocolate fill the full, mulitregional palate, representing Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Langhorne Creek, and Coonawarra. I imagine the volume here is massive, making this entry wine even more impressive. A flush of dark chocolate / kirsch fills the warm finish, best absorbed with beef ribs or lamb burgers.Tasted: 18 January 2020Tasted by: Prices:
