Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 1998

South Australia, AustraliaThe '98 is a blend of 51 per cent shiraz and 49 per cent cabernet sauvignon grown at Barossa, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra and Langhorne Creek. The 23rd edition is one of the best I've tasted sporting fresh white pepper, berry, and spicy aromas with plum fruit prune and licorice flavours. It's extremely supple thanks to the ninety per cent of Koonunga Hill that gets some barrel ageing. Penfolds winemakers consider the Koonunga Hill as the start of the premium red wine range and I would agree.Tasted: 01 March 2001Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
