M. Chapoutier Saint Joseph Les Granits Rouge 2017
Saint Joseph, Northern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceParts of Saint Joseph, like Hermitage, is on elevated soil with a high granite composition that seems to lend both syrah and marsanne an authentic styling, setting those wines against the bottles from the broader appellation. The hill above the village of Tournon, across the Rhône from Tain, is almost as steep as Hermitage, facing mostly south. Old, very low-yielding vines are at the heart of this wine. It’s a fully biodynamic and organic wine with intensely spicy, black pepper, red fruits, and sweet sausage. The attack is dry and supple with juicy black cherry, and peppery, stony, mineral fruit. Only just beginning life, but its a good one to bet on ageing and becoming an impressive member of the syrah society.Tasted: 16 October 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:CDN | $81.00 | 750ml | estimated price |
