Gérard Bertrand Aigle Royal Pinot Noir 2017
Limoux, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceThe Domaine de l'Aigle is a 47‐hectare estate located in the northernmost part of the Haute Vallée de l'Aude. The vineyard is established on espalier to produce an optimal illuminated leaf area for grapes to mature. The high-density vines (chardonnay and pinot noir) are grown using precision agriculture, which sits between 250-500 metres growing over clay‐limestone and facing south. Royal surprises with finesse, freshness, and spicy red fruit nuances. Look for that sauvage or wild herb scent that permeates the wild plums, red currant profile with a touch of game and earth. An impressive wine with lovely length, reminiscent of Pommard. L’Aigle Royal is a select block, or lot, of pinot fruit from the highest reaches of the estate. The harvest is manual, the grapes are destemmed and gravity fed into the vats. The fermentation and maceration lasts for around twenty days in large open tanks with cap punching twice daily.
