The Hatch Cabernet Franc 2017
Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Hatch do things a little bit differently, as you can tell from the use of a hock bottle for cabernet franc. From Mama D vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench, this is part of the winery’s “less is more,” unfortunately named Hobo Series. There’s some juicy black fruits here, but you have to initially search for it behind the sweet oak. With some time in the glass, it reveals blackberry, black raspberry, and green peppercorn. I like the fresher style, but the fruit dries out on the finish due to the assertive tannins.
