Smockshop Band Spring Ephemeral Rosé 2018

Columbia Valley, Oregon, United StatesHiyu is a 30 acre farm in the Hood River Valley, farming biodynamically and practicing permaculture. Smockshop Band is a line from Hiyu Wine Farm dedicated to exploring the Columbia Gorge, and from purchased fruit. This deeply hued, dusky / cloudy rosé is from a 10 acre site that they farm on the Oregon banks of the Columbia River. The label shows exactly where Scorched Earth Vineyard is located. This is dry farmed zinfandel from steep slopes littered with basalt cobbles. After letting the grapes macerate on skins for 5 days, this is native fermented in a basket press, along with enough colour from the skins to make this a rosé. This was bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no sulphites. Textural, brisk, and grippy, this savoury dusky wine draws forest berries, pomegranate, juicy plum, raspberry leaves and ample white peppercorn along the slender palate, finishing with an astringent riff. Bone dry, and natural, this is much more akin to a light chilled red than your idea of a rosé. Quite singular, and interesting.Tasted: 26 September 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
