River Stone Corner Stone 2016

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRiver Stone is a small estate operating just south of McIntyre Bluff near Oliver. In 2016 the blend is a 42/22/17/14/5/ mix of merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, malbec and petit verdot, all grown at their estate River Rock Vineyard. At 13 years of age, the vineyard is beginning to come into its own, reaping a wealth of flavours from the rocky, sandy, gravelly soils. The attack is dense but dry, showing dark chocolate and savoury tapenade. The fruit is equally dense with dried black fruit and firm tannins. It’s aged in French oak, 33 percent new, and it will need some time to digest it. As in previous years, it is sleek, dry and firm, with just the perfect amount of muscle and fruit. For now, you can serve this with a rare steak or lamb, but it is probably best to give this another five years to settle in and show its best stuff.
