Abbazia di Novacella Lagrein 2016

Trentino- Alto-Adige, ItalyAbbazia is a monastery founded in 1142 by the Augustinian Order of Canons Regular, and produces wine from their estate vineyards, complemented by neighbouring growers. This lagrein comes from vineyards in in Bolzano’s Quirein district, at 260-350m, and on soils mixed with sand, clay and eroded quartzite porphyry. You can feel the pixellated grittiness of the soils on the tight / fine textured palate, with blueberry, bumble berry, wild plum and sapid rock roses. Tannins are sticky and plump, and acidity is brisk to carry this to a peppery finish. This was fermented and aged in stainless before six months aging in very large oak casks prior to bottling.Tasted: 26 May 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
