Quails' Gate Pinot Noir Richard's Block 2017
West Kelowna, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaNamed for the Stewart family patriarch, Richard, who was one of the first to introduce pinot noir to the Okanagan in the early 1970s. From the oldest vines in Block 11 the Mt. Boucherie, volcanic-soiled estate, this is clones 667, 117, and 115, up to 30 years in vine age. After a ferment in stainless, this aged 13 months in French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Dusky plum, bitter black cherry, bark, tobacco leaf rule a medium bodied palate, with striated tannins from the wood, and a finely grippy texture that increases on the finish, welcoming rabbit or pork pairings. There's a very serious reserve and restraint here, while still allowing the pure Okanagan fruit to pulse through. Drinking well now, and over the next couple of years.Tasted: 23 July 2019Tasted by: Prices:BC | $54.99 | 750ml | winery direct, club members |
