Kendall-Jackson Jackson Estate Hawkeye Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesHawkeye Mountain is K-J's signature Alexander Mountain property planted from 900 to 2400 feet above sea level. Shallow, rocky and gravelly loam on steep, westward-facing hillsides with some terracing is the home to the limited release Hawkeye Ridge cab - an ‘island in the sky above the fog line. Early mornings can be cool, building acidity and lengthening the growing season, but the afternoons above the fog line are warm. It’s a mountain wine, so the more air it gets at this young age (double decanting recommended), the better. Big and bold but with some surprising restraint, its round full textures are spiked with licorice, tobacco and black cherry. The finish is long, savoury and persistent with mineral tones and soft, dense, fine-grained tannins that are sensational. Hawkeye Mountain is the real deal, and while I rarely, if ever, re-taste the same bottle over three days, this wine performed amazingly well. It deserves a sophisticated food match that brings an equal amount of finesse and style to the dinner table as big as it is. Bravo Randy.Tasted: 02 February 2019Tasted by: Prices:
