Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesA half year down the road there are no big changes here. The Hawkeye Mountain is KJ's signature Alexander Mountain property planted from 900 to 2200 feet above sea level. Shallow, rocky and gravelly loam on steep, westward facing hillsides with some terracing is the home to the limited release Hawkeye Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, an ‘island in the sky’ above the fog line. The attack remains brawny although there are signs the tannin is beginning to turn, giving both the front and back end some breathing room. The mountain textures are accentuated by spicy liquorice, tobacco, black cherry. The finish is long, savoury and persistent with mineral tones and soft, dense, chewy tannins.
