Rowen Red Wine 2015

Sonoma County, California, United StatesIn the pioneering spirit of Sonoma and Rodney Strong, winemaker Justin Seidenfeld has created Rowen a new red blend made with fruit grown at the high-elevation Cooley Ranch Vineyard in northeastern Sonoma County. The mix is dominated by 55 percent cabernet sauvignon and complemented with 26 percent malbec and 17 percent syrah cofermented with 2 percent viognier, the latter two adding a peppery floral note. The attack is super soft and round, almost hedonistic, thanks to 24 months in 100 percent French oak barrels of which half was new. In 2015 the grapes were picked at peak ripeness from September 6 through September 23 under perfect weather conditions. Lushness pervades this red with rich black raspberry marked with pepper, violets and dark chocolate. What it lacks in complexity, it has in immediate drinkability, yet all in the cooler restrained Sonoma character. The winery says braised lamb shanks and I say bring them on. Now tastwed twice in three months and its really settling into the bottle.Tasted: 26 January 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
