Bench 1775 Merlot 2014

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA lesser seen new release from the 2014 vintage, which is generally a welcome sight as big reds are released far too early, far too often. This single vineyard merlot is showing a bit of wear around the edges, with well-worn, bitter black cherry, espresso, dried sage emerging after a big plume of reduction airs off (decanting helps). Tannins are cedar firm (from one year in French oak), yet showing evident signs of bottle age, and acidity is still grapefruit tight to support this nearly 15 degrees wine. Somewhat disjointed solo; best taken with roast beef or venison. This fruit comes from Osoyoos' Oxbow Vineyard.Tasted: 10 October 2018Tasted by: Prices:
