El Esteco Don David Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Calchaqui Valley, Salta, North, ArgentinaSuch a big wine in such a hefty bottle with such a short cork (at least it's Diam). From Calchaqui Valley, this rich red was aged in new oak for one year, which is felt throughout the amplitude of this wine sitting on it rather than integrating itself. The tannins are dusty and sticky, the black and red stony mineral fruit is sun-ripened to leather, and the acidity struggles to match all the heft. That said, this would suit stews or braised meat dishes in the cool fall months or a side of midweek ribs on the grill in warmer ones.Tasted: 24 July 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $14.99 | 750ml | BCLS |
