British Columbia, CanadaWith the 2016 vintage, Capella begins the transition from Okanagan to Similkameen fruit. The sauvignon blanc (80 percent) is sourced from Whispered Secret and Blind Creek Vineyards in Keremeos, while the sémillon (20 percent) continues to be sourced from Dhaliwhal Bros. Vineyard in Oliver. The winemaking is similar to the 2015 vintage: 55 percent French oak puncheons; 45 percent stainless steel barrels), with one-quarter of the barrels allowed to naturally complete malolactic fermentation. It has a complex, vibrant nose of ripe grapefruit and tropical fruits combined with a floral lift. The oak sits nicely in the background, and is deftly integrated. Medium-bodied, it picks up some roundness from nine months aging on the lees, with crisp acidity leading to a mouthwatering, chalky finish. Clos du Soleil Capella 2016

British Columbia, CanadaAt Clos du Soleil, Capella is the flagship white, made in the classic Bordeaux style mixing sauvignon blanc and sémillon. In an age of skinny sauvignon blanc, this barrel-fermented and aged white is rounder, softer, and more complex. The nose is bright with citrus, grapefruit, lime rind and guava, and those aromas spill across the palate with an addition of passionfruit, sea salt and sage. Clos du Soleil Capella 2016

British Columbia, CanadaCapella is the flagship white of Clos du Soleil, and is always built around the best sauvignon blanc and sémillon of the year. In 2016, this yielded 80 percent sauvignon blanc from two vineyards in Keremeos, and 20 percent semillon from Oliver. Barrel fermented (45 percent French oak puncheons and the remainder stainless barrel), partial native fermented and 1/4 MLF, this all aged nine months on lees with regular battonage before blending. This is a wine for aging, but is drinking well now in youth, with flicks of flinty lemon, medicinal citrus, stones, apricot pit and white grapefruit pithiness seasoning the medium bodied palate. The wood is hinted at rather than shouted about, noticed but not talked about, and well enveloped into the form of this confident wine.Tasted: 23 July 2018Tasted by: Prices:
