Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaSemillon with age, under screwcap, equals magic. And it is made in Canada. At five years of age, the stark, pointy fruit that is the youthful Bartier Sem has flipped over to a much richer version of this grape. Honeyed, creamy and ripe pear give it a more exotic face, paying back to those who can wait for the transformation. Bartier Bros. Semillon 2015

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe last time I tasted this wine, in 2018, it was pretty awkward, an adolescent phase that sémillon goes through between fresh and perky youth and honeyed, relaxed age. 2015 is now showing more towards the latter, with the honeyed character helping to even the keel. The vintage was frosted out, so yields were meagre and concentration very high. The Cerqueira Vineyard fruit was whole-cluster-pressed and native fermented in stainless, where it remained 4 months on lees. Honeycomb mixes with ripe pear and ample lees on a creamy palate, with scrubby herbs drawn along to a lengthy, ashen finish—quite a big impact for 12.9%, and a nice contrast to the recently released 2019 sém.Tasted: 13 October 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaGingerale, yellow apples, elderflower, perfumed blossoms fill the mouth of this soft white, now four years old. Whole cluster pressed, native fermented, and from the special Cerqueira vineyard site north of Oliver, this is now showing signs of wear with a soft, blousy palate and a bit of sour yellow fruit finish.
