Hester Creek Terra Unica Petit Verdot - Malbec 2014

Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canadapetit verdot and malbec thrived in 2014 when warmer-than-average temperatures appear to have been a boon to ripening the notoriously difficult petit verdot, amazing in years in which is it fully ripe. The Terra Unica red is exclusive to the winery’s “Bench Club” subscribers. The petit verdot from Block 4 and malbec from Block 6 are 100 percent estate-grown grapes, co-fermented before barrel ageing for 12 to 16 months in a mix of 75 percent French and 25 percent American oak. The style is opulent, with rich spicy dark fruit aromas and flavours with bits of licorice and grippy youthful tannins in the back end. At just over 14 percent alcohol, there is a sense of balance which suggests this will only improve in bottle over the next five years. Well done. Serve now with grilled meat finished rare.Tasted: 08 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
