Anciano Gran Reserva Tempranillo Aged 7 Years 2008
Valdepeñas, Castilla-La Mancha, SpainWe like a wine that does the time for us. This tempranillo is aged for seven years in the cellars of Bodegas Navalon in Valdepeñas. The grapes are hand-harvested from 30-year-old vines, fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of American, French and Hungarian casks. This wine, at 2008, is a current release. Expect a red, brick orange colour with a leathery, tired barrel nose to match. The palate feels equally aged, with leathery, rustic black cherry, prune, smoked vanilla, liquorice root, cedar and tobacco. A simple old, classic Spanish style red best with fire grilled meats. Ready to drink, and that's the point.Tasted: 26 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Treve RingPrices:BC | $13.49 | 750ml | BCLS |
